Located in the East End, Billingsgate Fish Market is a London institution, but with an opening time of 4am and the strong smell of fish in the air, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
There are up to 150 varieties of fish and shellfish available from the various stalls, with some of it so fresh its actually still alive. From eels to snapper and prawns to lobster, there really is something for everyone.
The market is open until 8/9am (depending on the day), but with bargains to be found at every turn, stocks don’t last long, so it really does pay to get there as early as possible.
Although not your ‘typical’ outing, it’s definitely something all Londoners should experience at least once. So whether you’re planning a dinner party, a seafood themed BBQ or just fancy an insight into the early morning antics, Billingsgate is well worth a visit.
